We saw "Weird Al" Yankovic last night in Richmond. It was our third time seeing him, and it was awesome. I know Mark will be seeing him soon, so I don't want to give away all the spoilers, but here's some tidbits:
The symphony in the background added a nice depth to all the songs, but it wasn't overbearing. They were most present during "Jurassic Park," during the long musical interlude. They played Star Wars music during the encore, which tickled my nerd bone. They elevated silly songs like "Weasel Stompin' Day" to epic status.
There were a lot of costume changes and videos, but all the costumes felt manageable and comfortable. In other words, no fat suit, nothing really over-the-top. It was a toned-down version of the manic costume changes of the older Weird Al shows.
He started with a medley of shortened versions of famous parodies. He played two of the long travel songs ("Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota" and "Jackson Park Express"). I was most surprised to hear "Harvey the Wonder Hamster." The best song was "Dare to be Stupid" for the costumes, choreography, and outstanding music/singing. "Word Crimes" was also really well done.
It was a solid show that was over too soon! (about 1 hour 40 minutes)

Oh man that sounds great. Twine Ball is easily in my top five Al songs and I've never seen it performed live. Thanks, Deena!

We saw Al in Cary, NC, on the same tour. We were delighted to be right behind bassist Steve Jay in Walmart a couple of hours before the show. So cool, but we didn't bug him.
The show was great, but man, it was hot. Some girls were behind us and knew all the lyrics, and proved it by screaming them along with every song. Why, oh why can people not keep their mouths shut and enjoy the show and allow others to do the same?
Great show, as I said, but is Weird Al turning into a Vegas act? Same old stuff, which I love. I think it's time for new material. Couldn't you see him do a song and video parody of Billie Eilish?

I really enjoyed "The Hamilton Polka" and hope he does more songs like that. He's been under the record label's thumb for so long, I'm happy for him to take a breather for a few years.

I get up and go to work every day. That Yankovic bum can do the same thing!
