My little experiment to recreate the message board experience seems to be failing. People say they miss it, and I'm sure they do, but not enough to actually go back and participate again. I've told people, I've made it public on Facebook, and little has come of it.
I'm not mad. A little sad, but I understand. I don't have the time to keep it up myself.
I have been going through my old Horror Drive-In blog posts. I marvel at how much energy I had. I was writing reviews and commentaries on a regular basis. Multiple times a week. I kept up with an active forum. I worked a full time job. I watched at least a movie a night. I read a lot. I spent time with family. I drank alcohol every night.
Things are different now. I am busier than ever at my job. My commute is long and difficult. I am in a much healthier relationship and I spend a lot of time with Clara and her (my) family.
I still read a lot. I no longer watch movies, or at least I do so very rarely. I am trying to review and comment more. I do a monthly piece at Cemetery Dance Online.
I'm trying to balance it all, and there might not be time for this. I paid up for another month of ad-free usage, but if things do not pick up I probably won't do it again.
Thanks to all who have participated.

I pop by every day, or pretty much every day, but as you say, the conversations aren't really flowing in the same way as they were - a lot of us still connect on that dreaded facebook, but then back when we were younger these communities had hundreds if not a thousand plus members and a perpetual flow of conversation.
If you do decide its done, well, I'm glad you at least gave it another go.

I come in here every day. I'd hate to see it go, although that's just me being selfish.
I'm not on facebook, but I'm pretty sure this is way better

As I've said before, I much prefer forums, but it's obvious that most of the rest of the world prefers the one-stop shopping of Facebook. My McCammon forum languished for years before a system wipeout took out the forum, too. I created a Facebook group instead, and it has almost 1000 members and new posts almost every day.

My next Cemetery Dance Magazine column is called Social Media Killed the Message Board Star.
Pinhead, I appreciate that you want this place to stay afloat. Maybe start a topic every now and then? Talk about the books or movies you are watching? Comment on the community or publishing?

Not starting topics is a valid critique of my message board etiquette. I will do that. But I've been playing death metal all day, so....bed first

Thanks. I wasn't trying to call you down, but to point out that it takes the participation of all to make a forum work.

I love message boards. I do pop in here every couple of days to see if there are any new posts. I also try to post to threads, but whenever I do, it seems like the thread dies. That's always been the case dating back to the Shocklines era. It must be my magnetic personality. LOL.

You're right Mark. Since the Shocklines days, I've gotten in the habit of lurking and reading others' posts because back then I wasn't nearly as educated in horror fiction as everyone else seemed to be.
Now it's many years later, and probably around 1000 more books read by me, and now I'm much better read but my old habits are still there.
Although I gotta say that I have a decent amount of posts here, over 50-which seems to be second only to Mark
