Teen Movie Hell is a pretty cool book about the classic years of teen cinema. I'm a big fan of teen movies, and this A-Z book about them is astonishingly complete. The author of most of the reviews are by one Mike McPadden (his nickname is McBeardo). He makes some pretty astute observations and I agree with a lot of his assessments. I guess I am the perfect target audience for this book. I mean, I am old enough to have seen rarities like Hollywood High and Hot and Bothered at drive-in theatres.
McBeardo has a certain amount of disdain for John Hughes movies. While not completely dismissing them, he has plenty of derogatory remarks to make about them. Well, I love those movies more than most of the others listed in the book. That sort of thing doesn't really bother me, though. I mean, this guy actually likes Night of the Comet. That one's appeal has always escaped me. I saw it at a theater when it came out, and I hated it. I was astonished when I would hear how many people hold Night of the Comet in high regard. I tried it again many years later, and I hated it even more.
Minor complaints. I see eye-to-eye with McBeardo on most of the stuff in Teen Movie Hell.
