Time was I liked pretty much every new writer whose work was met with acclaim. No more. I don't know if standards have dropped, I've gotten snobbier, or if it's a combination of the two.
I've tried some of the new toasts of the town. Some I like, such as Benjamin Percy and Grady Hendrix. Others, well, not so much. But all come with the strongest recommendations. Hell, just about EVERYTHING comes strongly recommended these days. If you believe the hype, brilliant masterpieces are springing up on an hourly basis.
Who are some of your favorite new writers in the field?

I read a few relatively unknown writers, but they aren't really new. Would John Boden count? I REALLY liked both JEDI SUMMER and OUT BEHIND THE BARN

New crop is a rough one, I'm so far behind in my genre reading to be honest, that I'm still looking at very established writers like Adam Nevill and thinking of his as 'new'... But I did hear really good things about Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero, and I've got it on my tbr pile right now as the next up.

For what it's worth, I intensely disliked Meddling Kids.

Hah I should have known you'd already read it.

I'm right fond of Michelle Garza and Melissa Lason. I think they're putting out some fresh stuff. The fact that they're siblings and seem precisely on the same page as collaborators, gives them an edge to their fiction I haven't been experiencing from other new writers. I really enjoyed Mayan Blue.

Hey Ron! Good to see you here!
I have only heard good things about Garza and Lason. One of these days I am going to give them a try.

The only new authors I can think of that are can’t miss are T.E. Grau, Grady Hendrix, and Iain Reid.

What about Nick Cutter? Is he considered new? He's Canadian, anyway....like me...so that's good

Cutter has been publishing under various names for quite some time, so I'm not sure I'd call him a new writer.

I tried to like Meddling Kids but couldn't finish it. It seemed like it would have all the elements of a book I'd love. I didn't like the characters and didn't enjoy picking the book up. I tried!

Meddling Kids felt like a young writing student trying to come off as experienced and sophisticated. It was painful.
