I love George Romero, and his Dead trilogy is important, seminal horror work. The second three Dead movies he did are far less successful. In fact, I tried hard to like them, but by Survival I was fed up.
So I would only be mildly interested in a walking dead novel from Romero. Oh, I would check it out, but with low expectations.
However, I am very excited about The Living Dead. Romero began writing this zombie novel, but never completed it. His widow wisely chose Daniel Kraus to finish writing it. If you have not read Kraus, you are missing one of today's finest writers. Try Rotters, or The Death and Life of Zebulon Finch. His recent Hard Case Crime novel, Blood Money, is deliriously good too. Kraus has also worked with Guillermo del Toro on The Shape of Water and Trollhunters.
The Living Dead isn't out until June, but I have it now. I received advance copies of it and his upcoming YA novel, Bent Heavens. I will be interviewing Daniel Kraus and reviewing both books for Horror Drive-In this Spring.
