It isn't often that I get excited about a movie. Really excited, I mean. I saw both It Part 2 and Dr. Sleep, and I had mixed feelings about both of them. I did like Tom Hanks as Mr. Rogers. But I cannot think of the last time I was as stoked to see something as I am for Uncut Gems.
Uncut Gems looks to be Adam Sandler's real bid for respectability. He has made some valiant attempts before. Some failed, and others did not find their audiences. Then of course his comedy is not for everyone. Most of it is certainly not for me.
The trailer for Uncut Gems looks terrifying. I know some like the city life, but the gutter life depicted in the movie looks like Hell on Earth to me.
I'll be seeing it next weekend.

While everyone else was rushing out to see the new Star Wars, I was at this genuinely unnerving, brilliant movie. Sandler is absolutely amazing in it, and he captivates attention in nearly every scene. It is truly one of the best performances I have ever seen. Uncut Gems isn't for everyone, that's for sure. A couple near me walked out. I don't know if they were hoping for a typical Adam Sandler comedy, or maybe a stylish mob movie ala Scorcese. Many will hate Uncut Gems. I thought it was the best movie I've seen in ages.

I saw it and enjoyed it immensely. It occurred to me late in the movie how little violence there was for the amount of tension. A bunch of people walked out in my showing as well.
