Earlier this year I was lucky enough to be selected to deliver a TEDx Talk, and my topic was "How Horror Taught Me Empathy"...a direct response to that New Republic Article from several years ago where the author suggested horror fans lack empathy. I talk about a lot of personal information from my past here, and also talk about how real horror hinges on pulling an empathetic response from the audience. Thought the folks who frequent here might enjoy the talk.

That;s cool, Mark. I've often found horror to elicit feelings of empathy in me. I'll give this a play on my commute when I am done with my latest audiobook.

Excellent talk. This from someone entering this community recently and making my attempt at empathy. I was always a reader and watched horror movies, mainly older and mainstream films, so horror as a culture and community has been a wonderful experience.

Thanks to everyone who checked it out. I was nervous as all hell, I can tell you that, and when I walked off stage I was so shaky I thought I might not be able to stand. But also exhilarated in an odd way.
