It's a bitch, ain't it?
I've been trying to promote my book, He Who Types Between the Rows. People seem to like it, but getting it reviewed hasn't been so easy. I have some copies out, and I know it takes time. Especially for print media.
I feel embarrassed about asking for reviews. I mean, how many authors are trying to make it right now? One hell of a lot. They all want exposure. My book was published by Cemetery Dance, as a trade paperback, and that carries a certain degree of clout. But I am shy about making inquiries.
Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Don't feel bad. I know that time is short for so many of us. Your friendship is what means the most to me.

I feel the same way. Asking for reviews seems somehow wrong. It's a bitch to know you've done good work but few seem to notice. That makes requesting reviews seem like not such a bad idea. Tempting, isn't it.

I'm looking into the Bookstagram people. That's where the action seems to be these days.

It is a pain, no doubt. If you have an ebook copy available, you may want to send out a blanket press release to as many on line book and movie sites you may think would be interested and have them contact you for a link to the book. There are no guarantees you’ll get much interest, but you may be surprised. Start the press release pitch with your quote from Joe Bob Briggs and you‘ll have a lot of those guys hooked. You can try it with the physical book too, but a lot of people may just request to see if they can get a free book and not review it.

Hi Rob!
I think you are doing extraordinarily well if half of the books you send out actually get reviewed. 25% might be more like it.
I don't have an electronic file at the moment.

Self promotion is hard especially in the small press. You're largely left to do it on your own, and if you do too much you become obnoxious. And other authors can get very nasty and vile to newer authors still trying to find the balance. Like you can't win for losing.

I haven't had other authors be rude to me, but I am very concerned about overdoing it. The thing is, when I do an occasional post, passing on a blurb or pointing out a positive review, my Amazon rank jumps a bit. So it does seem to work to a point.
It's definitely a tightrope walk.

I have separate FB pages for my writing. One is my author page, and the other is just for my Halloween books since I've written so many. I actually have more likes for the latter. Besides that, not much at all. I have too much marketing to do with real estate, and that pays the bills. I really don't have the motivation to go out there and constantly promote. For myself, the payoff doesn't justify it, so thus I remain a hobbyist writer.

Just for the record, I have a 100% reviewing rate. If I receive it, I review it. Often within a week's time.
Unfortunately, I have a conflict of interest with your book. I'm still sorta tempted to review it, cause conflicts of interest seem to not matter to most people in this business
