I started James Renner's Muse last night. i was unaware that this novella dealt with Lovecraft, which isn't my favorite subgenre, but I am enjoying it.
I am not watching much. We tried Season 3 of Stranger Things, and Clara and I both felt that it jumped the shark at this point. We enjoyed the first two seasons. We didn't love it as much as some, but it was overall very enjoyable. But Season 3 started off with a thud. It is grossly overwrought, painfully exaggerated, and felt unbearably forced. Neither of us much like the Mike character. In fact, other than Dustin and Hopper, we don't really like any of them. So I guess we are done with it. Adios. today we are seeing Dr. Sleep.
Right now I am really enjoying a new album from a longtime favorite, Neil Innes. Innes was the songwriter and singer for the Beatles pastiche, The Rutles, and he was in the wonderful Bonzo Dog Band. Neil has also had a marvelous solo career. His latest, Nearly Really, isn't just the best album he has ever done, it is one of the best I've ever heard. It is a joyful, gently humorous study of aging and mortality from a seventy-five year old man. But it isn't morbid. It's a beautiful collection of songs that provides insight and comfort to the inevitability of our lives, and the insanity of our times.

I liked the high school science teacher in Stranger Things.
Right this moment Mark has Steely Dan on the Turn Table.
While waiting for my audio hold for Preston and Child’s Crimson Shore I randomly started The Beekeeper’s Apprentice by Laurie King. A Tale of Sherlock Holmes.
I’m about to begin reading King’s, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, as a buddy read with my nine year old Granddaughter. It’s my first reading of the book. Mark got the six year old the pop-up book so she can join us.

Watching: We've been introducing our kids to some classics like "2001: A Space Odyssey" and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind."
Reading: I'm just about to start "Devil Red" by Joe R. Lansdale. Every time I need a good comfort read, I go to Lansdale.
Listening: I've been digging alternative hip-hop artists like Grandson and Yungblud.

I've started the Valancourt Paperback From Hell, The Nest, by Gregory A. Douglas. It surely isn't a great book, but it is icky nostalgic fun.

Reading: I'm reading The Cold Dish, the first in the Walt Longmire series by Craig Johnson. I loved the Longmire TV series, and I decided to give the novels a try. I'm enjoying it. I'm about 75% through it.
I've also been slowly making my way through Ellis Peters's Cadfael mysteries, sparked again by my love of the Cadfael TV show.
Watching: My wife and I recently rewatched Manhunt, Glen, and enjoyed it just as much the second time. We're also enjoying the 10th season of Blue Bloods, the Father Brown mysteries, the latest season of Doc Martin, and Instinct.
With the launch of Disney+ yesterday, we watched the documentary Waking Sleeping Beauty and the first episodes of The World According to Jeff Goldblum and The Imagineering Story. All were excellent.
Listening: A lot of live concert recordings from Alice Cooper, KISS, Webb Wilder, and others. Alice Cooper's recent EP Breadcrumbs has gotten a lot of play recently, and I've also listened to John Harrison's Creepshow soundtrack a lot recently (again). It is, for my money, the best horror soundtrack ever.

Man, Hunter, we have very similar tastes in viewing. I really enjoy Blue Bloods, Doc Martin, and Father Brown. My wife thinks I sometimes act like Doc Martin. Whenever she says that, I want to reply, "Oh, shut up!" but I hold my tongue. Based on our similarities, I'll have to see if Instinct is available on any of my platforms.

Wise man to hold your tongue. Instinct is a CBS show starring Alan Cumming. It's a bit goofy, but fun enough. Nice to find someone else who watches what we've been watching!

Reading: I just finished reading Jack Vance's Bad Ronald. Next up is Linwood Barclay's Elevator Pitch.
Watching: As usual, not a thing.
Listening: The last record I spun was Dream Academy's first, self-titled album.

reading jim Thompson pop 1280 another nasty cop but there is a taste of satire and social commentary here that the killer inside me doesn’t have.

I know I read that Thompson, but it was ages ago. I can't remember a single detail, but I know I have enjoyed everything I read by him.

Reading Full Throttle, Joe Hill. Mark had me read Matheson’s Duel first. Wild rides. Breathless reading. I actually found myself holding my breath in both cases. The introductory chapter of Full Throttle is delightful. I will continue to read it. I wasn’t much of a short story reader before I met Mark. He has turned that around mostly by reading me stories. And a book of stories can be put down and returned to. Still reading The the Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, with my granddaughter. Listening to Crimson Shore, Preston and Child. Almost caught up with the Pendergast series! Last weekend we went to a big flea market in North Carolina and I bought a pristine copy of Led Zeppelin’s Physical Graffiti. I’ve been spinning that when Mark is out of the house.

Thanks, man. So great to be back. Glad to see the forum back on. I missed it. As for HALLOWEEN, I enjoyed it more this second time around. I still can't grasp that whole psychiatrist loosing it scene but other than that the film was OK.
