Is Boy's Life a horror novel?

Is Boy's Life a horror novel? No, despite Pocket's (apparently successful) attempt to market it as such. It's my favorite novel by any author, but it would never be included in a top 10 horror list from me. When I think horror, I think: Swan Song - Robert McCammon They Thirst - Robert McCammon 'Salem's Lot - Stephen King Headhunter - Michael Slade Ghost Story - Peter Straub Silence of the Lambs - Thomas Harris The Keep - F. Paul Wilson Mark of the Werewolf - Jeffrey Sackett The Light at the End - Skipp & Spector Pet Sematary - Stephen King For examples. I deliberately limited the number of McCammon books, because several of them would make my actual list. You can also see the last time I read a horror novel that really made an impact on me.

Is Boy's Life a horror novel? No, but it's my favorite book and it's horror adjacent I suppose. I just don't feel right leaving it off of any favorites list

The guy is brilliant
KIN is absolutely near the top of best extreme horror novels ever written.
Glen, have you read THE SECRET LIFE OF SOULS yet? I think it's even better than RED

I put The Secret Life of Souls near Red, but not too far behind. His books just ached with emotion. I have a CD copy of Gorilla in My Room that I want to read, but I'm hesitant. Not that I'm not sure it will be great, because it will. I just don't want to run out of new reads from Dallas.

Lansdale definitely belongs on my list, but I had too hard of a time picking between THE BOTTOMS, A FINE DARK LINE, and FREEZER BURN In reality, probably 4 of my top 10 would be Lansdale books, but I was trying to feature more authors.

Most of Lansdale's output doesn't belong on a horror list, IMO. Cold in July, Sunset and Sawdust, Savage Season, etc, are all among my favorite books, but none of them count as horror, IMO.
