I can see why this one gets strong reactions. Some hail it as a masterpiece, others think it is too long, too slow, and ridiculous. I put myself firmly in the former group.
God, I liked Hereditary. I loved the slow burn, the subtle clues, the shocking images. At least one scene made me gasp with surprise and horror. About thirty minutes in; if you saw it, you know what I mean.
The Movie Sign With The Mads guys disliked Hereditary, which did not surprise me. I was also not surprised that they both liked The Cabin in the Woods.
I'll add to the massive praise given to director Ari Aster, leads Toni Collette and Alex Wolff, cinematographer Pawel Pogorzelski, and really, everyone involved in the movie.

I agree with all of that. I think 30 yrs from now, it'll be considered one of the greatest horror films.
And I'm still mad about the Toni Collette Oscar snub

LOVE this film. One of the best I've seen in a long time. Not slow at all. Just mesmerizing. And, indeed, THAT scene is shocking as hell.

I saw Hereditary when it was first released in 2018 and have never been able to come to terms with how I felt about it.
My first reaction upon leaving the theater was it was a great horror movie, much more shocking than most of the horror movies today.
But the more I thought about it, especially the last third of the movie, which was so over the top and border line ridiculous, I started to wonder if he meant the movie to be a satire of the horror genre.
To this day, still not sure how I feel about. Probably need to watch it again, though I do agree about that scene. Did not see it coming, and it was a definite WTF moment for me.
